Attractions in Amsterdam

The location of Schiphol Airport is approximately 14 km southwest of Amsterdam city. In relation to The Hague, it is about 57 km (36 miles) and from Rotterdam, about 73 km or 46 miles. The A10 ring road from Amsterdam will connect with the A4 motorway, which leads directly to Schiphol Airport. From the A4 motorway exit the airport is clearly signposted.

There are various modes of transportation, other than by car, to get safely to Schiphol Airport. Amsterdam has a well-designed railway system with a direct link to Schiphol Airport from the Amsterdam Central Station. The train service is the fastest and most convenient way of traveling to the airport. From other areas outside of Amsterdam, there are high-speed international trains that connect to the airport.

If you plan on using public transport to take in the sights, possibly the best value for travelers can be to obtain an "I Amsterdam City Card" which allows free admission to 60 museums and attractions, combined with free use of the city transport system (including buses, trams and metro).

Local bus services are available for passengers wanting to travel to the airport. This would be the most economical transportation option available. Taxis at Schiphol Airport and Limousines provide a more costly, but convenient, transportation service to the airport.

On arrival at Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport, passengers will find the single terminal building easy to navigate. Each area and facility of the terminal is well signposted in text and symbols, therefore easily understood, regardless of anybody’s native language. You will also find the Airport Ground staff are also especially helpful in giving directions throughout the terminal.

Schiphol Airport itself can be classed as a tourist attraction. Schiphol Plaza offers excellent shopping opportunities, especially as the airport has the greatest number of duty-free stores in all of Europe. Schiphol Airport accepts every major currency, making shopping highly convenient. Passengers or visitors can enjoy fantastic views of the airport activities from the huge open-air observation deck, located right at the top of the terminal building. This area is known as the Panoramaterrras. The Aviodome museum is a fascinating addition to the airport, featuring over 30 types of aircraft on display. Some of which are antiques.

Schiphol Airport is closely associated with the Rijksmuseum and has it’s own smaller version for the perusal of passengers. It is located between the E and F concourses in the area known as the ‘Holland Boulevard’. The museum displays a limited amount of world-class classical and contemporary art pieces.

Other amenities at Schiphol Airport include a 24-hour medical center, a post office in the central lounge, business and conference facilities, banking and currency exchange services, ATM's and a sufficient number of Airport Information Desks for any help required.
